When a couple is planning their wedding, there are many decisions that need to be made. For the bride, her gown is one of the biggest decisions she will make. Traditionally wedding dresses, or gowns, were red, blue, purple or even black. The white wedding gown was made popular by Queen Victoria. She wore white when she married Prince Albert in 1840. Since that time, other cultures have adopted the Western custom of the white wedding.

How many bridesmaids and what style and color dresses they are going to wear are other decisions that need to be made. On the average, there are four bridesmaids and four groomsmen at a wedding. The styles of tuxedos for the groom and his groomsman also need to be selected. Of course, the couple also has other decisions to make. Such as where wedding should take place.

Deciding on a location, style of a bridal gown and colors of bridesmaid dresses are just the beginning. Caterers have to be hired, flowers have to be ordered, and there has to be music. Then there is the decision of whether to hire a disc jockey to play previously recorded music, or a live wedding band.

Many couples prefer to have live wedding bands. Some are even lucky enough to have a family member or a friend who is a member of a live wedding band and can give them a discount. Better yet, musicians sometimes perform at weddings of their close friends or family members for free as their gift to the couple.

  1. I wish we had hired a live band. One of my husbands old college friends told him he was a d.j., and offered him a “deal”. What a mistake. It seemed like he had never even picked up a microphone before the reception.
